Madonie - Pizzo Dipilato

Today Sergio and I decided to retrace that trip Domenico Pantanino had made with other bikers this winter. The ring route departing and arriving Collesano with a difference between the minimum and maximum point of 700 meters.

Collesano reach by car, and then prepare the bikes and everything you need and we prepare to go in the only part of this tour asphalt of up to about 500 meters after the junction of Munciarrate Isnello direction.

From here begins a long climb that takes about three kilometers up to Pizzo Dipilato (1130 meters), the bumpy sections with really challenging. And to say that Dominic had warned me, but I could not hold back my desire to explore new places.

the end of the last climb we are rewarded with truly breathtaking views of both looking towards the sea, as Pizzo Carbonara or the other peaks. I had never climbed this mountain in watching from afar because I found it barren and very few trees, but after today I think I go back often (maybe on foot).

Unfortunately, the surprises were not over, because reached the top, I expected to find a path that takes me back to the water near Gratteri , and indeed perhaps there is, but the problem is that it was hidden from the tall grass, that nasty full of thorns, and often could not even see it, let alone ride. After we (finally) managed to take the dirt roads, we cleaned all the pins stuck everywhere, even in her hair, and we enjoyed the descent into Collesano almost totally immersed in the forest San Giorgio, where you can see the ruins of the old Abbey.

After the woods we came to town, we passed the ice cream, we put the bikes in the car and go home. "A minnulicchia" (The small almond)

What a beautiful hike I did today, I enjoyed really. I did mountain bike in the way I like most, in good company, only wild off-road exploration. We started the industrial agglomeration of Termini Imerese with the intention of achieving Roccapalumba by river. Yes, you read right, the river " Fiumetorto " which flows just near the Fiat plant, along the same valley where is the Termini railway-Agrigento, passing stations Sciara, Montemaggiore Belsito and Roccapalumba . Our idea is to drive along the river and rail as much as possible until you get to Roccapalumba .

We then started to explore as possible to the area, and we managed to get "almost" at the station Montemaggiore Belsito. We have come only country roads, of course we had to retrace our steps a lot of times, I do not even remember how many times we were forced to cross the river, sometimes we have to take the road crossed the railway. In short, you understand, exploration to 360 degrees.

There were funny episodes, especially when we met a horse tied in the district " Minnulicchia " that prevented us from passing. I know perfectly that perhaps the horses are harmless, but at that moment we had all lost our certainties, Sergio the most reckless of us, approached comfortable seeing that the horse was tied with a long rope. Only when all eyes followed the path of the rope, and he realizes that the other was secured just below the top of the foot, we finally saw a bit ' of panic on his face, and he began to back accompanied by our laughter and the horse tried to kiss him.

Overcoming the horse, given the hour, we decided to stop up the river (for now) and begin to return to base. We request information to a farmer and decide to make a paved climb (3 km, 360 meters Hm.) that has brought us to St. John the Greeks, where Sergio to further humiliate start doing stunts.

Piano Zucchi

Today I hope to have started the series of tours of the fabulous Park Madonie , I had planned a route that went away from the sea (industrial agglomeration of Termini Imerese) and arrive at an altitude of 1100 meters and precisely plan Zucchi. I also thought of using the roads for the outward and return to dirt, but between saying and doing in the middle that we were seeing double had in the last section. I have to remove the habit of going behind Sergio, Torre began to plan a sprint to him that cost him half 'hours of waiting in Piano Zucchi , it cost me a hard work get aggravated by a crisis of hunger.

But in the end I sacrificed the return of off-road, there was neither 'time it' energy (for me) to be able to deal with. So summarizing gone Campofelice of Roccella (first photo) and Collesano (second photo), a return equal to Collesano where the lady in the bar, hearing the screams of hunger away, has come up with a beautiful brioche made with hazelnut ice cream flavor in his hand. After it has eaten ice cream and recovered a bit ' energy, we decided to take a shortcut to the Termini Imerese to save time.

Even though I had to ride 80km on asphalt with a MTB (never happened in my life), the trip was pleasant, diving into the thick woods of Madonie is always a time magic, especially if you're not inside a passenger compartment of car.

I hope that this is the first in a series of excursions in this park, the time is good for the temperature and the days get longer and longer. Ventimiglia di Sicilia

Today's destination was the town of Ventimiglia di Sicilia, a neighboring country and Baucina Ciminna. Me and my friend Joseph to reach the path we SS113, then the road to intercept the plane Spur SP6 (Trabia-Ventimiglia) that led us in the center of the country. Route mainly on asphalt, and then traveled with road bike. For the return instead we got a little 'share to reach the location Portella, then we went through the whole Suvari, the Cross, finally arriving to Casteldaccia which was the starting point.

In practice we have, as you can see from the picture, circumnavigated the entire reserve of Pizzo dog. Unfortunately I have not taken many photos, because at first we had a mechanical mishap that made us lose a bit 'of time, and then forced us to keep pace happy to avoid being surprised by the sunset. In any case I could not resist to capture the lake Caccamo seen from this side (the opposite in Caccamo).

The day was not the best, there were times when the rain seemed imminent, but fortunately we got home dry (apart from the sweat of course :-).

trip was not just my style, was more an exercise to retrieve the last week of inactivity, I want to be fit for next, so enjoy the excursions in which I am organizing madonie with my friends. Hopefully the weather improved to more fun.

For a week I could not find time for mtb . Unfortunately, sometimes these periods captain busy work and family, what made me angry and that there were beautiful days .... patience. Today I'm finally free, but I was suddenly, so I can arrange with anyone, then I decided to do my "usual" around. Best to avoid, I'll settle for watching from below and continue cycling towards Ventimiglia di Sicilia.

This route is almost all on paved roads, but with little traffic, very little indeed, I encountered three cars at most. It also runs through the village "La Madonna" in Traverse town, where possibly there is also a bar.
